The magazine showed up in my mail this week. This is the short version as I read it: When the free preview starts you can enter the code, get a broken toy and do a quest to get the grey giant mini-pet. It will disappear after the event is over.
Once the retail game comes out, you can enter the code and do the quest again and keep it permanently.

Thanks!!
I wonder if we will actually get to see a giant statue like that of the evil god in the game, that would be really cool.
So what do you guys think of the part where the devs say that once Nightfall comes out, evil spirts and creatures that serve the evil god will start appearing in Prophecies and Factions too, even if you do not own Nightfall? Not sure if that will be fun or really really annoying.
It does sound plausible that the selective salvage would be Nightfall-only, I do hope though that if you can pick your salvage from Nightfall items you can put them on items that you maybe didn't get from Nightfall, like a 20/20 inscription on a Factions item you already have.

In other words, it can't be Dhuum. Everyone prancing Canthan Child knows Dhuum's name.
|
So your saying every Canthan Child has been to the Underworld, fought their way to the Reaper of the Chaos Planes and knows of Dhuum's name?
I’m sorry to inform you this but no one knows of Dhuum except the Ascended who actually traveled to the underworld and spoke to ONE specific Reaper of the Chaos planes. I’ve played GW for a year and a half and I have yet to join a party who can stay in the game long enough to get to this quest.
As a matter of fact I know of very few players in the REAL world, who have actually done this quest and succeeded. Apart from the information in Guildwiki no one would really know of this quest and thereby the name of the former God of Death and Destruction. I doubt the claims of only a few would even matter to all the school children in Cantha or Tyria.
Dhuum fits the ticket all too well.

Well after some hell of my own, I figured out I had a duplicate of about twenty pages, which i missed because I said hey 96 is 96 and it isnt here. Also while reading through I noticed in the Paragon section it says " The Paragon will be the tallest player character in Guildwars. When shouting or Chanting buffs in the field, the Paragon's wings will stretch out as he rises in the air, making him even more imposing."
As far as I knew before they just had wings on there armor, but this sounds cool.

I wonder if we'll learn the forgotten god's name next weekend, it says we get to play all of Istan, which unfortunately is just the starter island. Hopefully they'll spill the secret of which god we get to kill in there somewhere

I agree this sounds so very very very cool. I know that I will indeed have a Paragon for Nightfall.
What’s also interesting is the mention of terrible things happening to Tyria and Cantha with Nightfall being released. This has really peaked my interest.

Oh wow, that is cool, I definitely want a paragon now if I get to have wings for sure
Hey penguo, does that mean you found the mini-pet key in your magazine after all? I hope so!
EDIT: I don't know how I forgot to mention this earlier, but
There ARE floating palaces in Nightfall!!!!!!
I know that was a popular wish, so I hope lots of people are happy when we get to see them in-game.

that only refers to salvage.
once you have a mod salvaged it is simply a mod that you can do whatever you want to with it.
it only said that now you get to choose what mod you salvage and the weapon is not destroyed.
going on that if you had a really nice prefis AND a terriffic suffix it looks like you could salvage one of them without damaging the weapon and then do a second salvage to get the other mod as well.
and still have the weapon with whatever inherent mods left over

Mindcrime, Darkwasp , .. Although I think you got wrong how 'inscriptions' will work or be implemented, I do share your concern about rarity, especially when it comes to salvaging items. Items (especially weapons mods) aren inherently rare and hard to get in Guildwars because they salvage randomly... By instituting selectable salvaging they're going to throw the economy out of whack for sometime, and yes, make mods (be them perfect or not) a much less valuable thing , and less of an edge on the competition... Game nerfs.. for better or for worse??

inscriptions are the built in modifiers that are there before you add either a prefix or suffix to the weapon.
what they have simply done is add a 3rd class of tradable/sellable/givable modifier to the game
1 PREFIXEX
2 SUFFIXES
3 INSCRIPTIONS

and that is exactly what they want to do so live with it.
they want the more casual player to be able to get nice things and if a few eliteist farmers lose some gold so what
O.....M.......G.....some newcomer can actually have a nice weapon

Remember when tombs was invaded by the chaos realm (realm of torment now) creatures. Remeber the Jade Wind festival with the "special missions" require you to tackle chaos portals opening up and chaos enemies (many of whom were called tormented something) invading shing jea. Both these events had little relevance to the prophecies and factions storyline, so it seems logical the chaos realm invasion is a result of this mysterious banished god, and we will likely see more portals opening up in Tyria and Cantha as a result.
To all those whining/complaining about the inscription salvaging ruining the game/economy, there's already a (closed) thread on the Riverside Inn about this. To this end, I just have to say people get worked up over something to which they have NO idea of how it works actually, and then proceed to make grand speculations about how "MANY, MANY" people will quit the game because of this. /shakes head

Items and armor were never intended to "give you an edge". Armor and weapon mods allow you to tailor you equipment to your needs.
I have yet to acquire a +5 energy weapon for any of my chars, but if I wanted to pvp, A-Net will give me one for free.
The skin market will still be strong, and if it lowers the price, fine. This game was intended to be a skill focused game, that would accomidate casual players, and put them on even ground with the kids who play all day.
I like it.

Argh there was a thread around for Australians but I can't find it anymore and the new search function is really, really bad.
I was talking to a friend who works at a large newsagent in the city. She rang supply for me re: PC Gamer November issue. They are not expecting to receive it before mid-December and they get whatever doesn't sell in the US.
What this means is that POTENTIALLY Australians might not get it at all, and certainly if you are outside of the large cities I imagine you will not have an easy time trying to get your hands on a copy of the magazine.
MOST LIKELY, we will get in mid-December and they will sellout fairly quickly. Most specialised gaming stores don't seem to be able to get magazines any faster than the local newso, however if someone does find the November issue in Aust, please let us know In the meantime I need to find my cousin's phone number, she's in the US atm ;D

I too have read that portion and was seemingly intrigued at the prospect of having wings that spread while i float chanting buffs but.....it may not all be what it seems to suggest.
a) We dont know if the Wings are infact wings on the armour (size unknown on higher end armour) or infact wings CGI generated from casting spells much like the current CGs eles and mesmers have for casting spells.
b) About the floating bit, Eles while casting spells already "rises in the air" slightly and seening how the models of the paragon resembles that of the elementalist, it doesnt seem unlikely the description is merely trying to stir our imaginations wild.

To our defense, the same crap you posted was said about Alliances(town control and Faction Farming) and Elite missions in factions weeks before it was actually released and has been in controvesy ever since. The article in PC gamer was very specific about how inscriptions will work and the consequences were easy enough to comprehend.

One thing I like about GW was that it strayed away from gore. I am a little concerned about the Flesh level. NOW ANET IS THIS NESSICARY?
Will this area be mandatory to travel through? If so I am afraid that GW will take a turn for the worse.
So far the scariest thing in the game I have seen has been a Murssat. Gross was never a problem so I would let my 12 year old Son play the game. Now this has me very concerned.
ANET please do not lower yourself to Diablo II or worse.

sorry but have you checked that it is rated *TEEN* and not *everybody*?
if the child were 8 would you still let them play?
it is up tp the parent to decide what to let their UNDER AGE RATED child see not make us all come down to the level of your childs comfort zone.
you are choosing to let an under age child play it so that is your decision

Well if anybody played, “Ninja Gaiden” (the Xbox version) people will remember the last areas of the game were pretty gruesome (especially the Imperil Palace); that’s what I can see with this, just toned down a bit for the teen rating.
